this post is hot from the oven. there are many other unblogged events i wanna blog about but they all happened last year. LOL. even if it was just countdown yesterday i feel like i'm outdated!
Hello 2010!
The awesome family has an annual Gourmet Competition! This year is the 4th year the competition is held. [For last year's please click here] A short intro (again), this competition is to remember our Por Por who was THE BEST cook on earth, and to continue keeping the strong bond of the family :)
the stakes are higher every year and everyone's just getting better *and more kiasu*!
ok show you GOOOD GOURMET FOOD! eh before that must show you the judging criteria.
1. Taste
2. Presentation
3. Theme Value
4. Creativity and resourcefulness
5. Gourmet Class
"
Criteria 5 “Gourmet Class” is intended to give an overall rating as to whether the dish is gourmet level or not"
OK GOOD FOOD:
1. Gourmet Class Hong Kong Dim Sum
just because one of the criteria is 'gourmet class', the chef had to add the word 'gourmet class' in the name of her dish to emphasize that her dish is of gourmet class. haha.
They presented their dish telling a love story of our ah por and ah gong. saying how both of them maintain their marriage by having dimsum every Sunday. very sweet. their presentation is personally my favourite.
I have videos of all the presentations but SORRRAYYY i am too lazy to upload [it will take forever!]
2. Smokey Grilled Ribs with Rice Salad
hahaha imagine having to serve this to 30 people. they hid their extra ribs under the table AHAHAHAHA. they presented just one plate to ensure that it's of 'gourmet class'. HAHA.
3. Crispy Pata Crackling Pork Leg
this comes in a SET! salad, main, dessert [caramel custard yummm] and ginger tea! very award winning.
4. A New Lease of Life
9 different kinds of food laid on a long porcelain plate to represent ah por's 9 distinctive yet united children.
I personally think this is the best dish! so pretty and colourful! :P
5. Skewers!
onions, pumpkin, pork! *or is it chicken ooops* tasty and easy to eat!
6. Beef and Pepper.
ok why the name sucks is because i named it because i don't remember if this dish has a name. Da Jiu just came in with this on an ordinary plate while every one else's was extravagant. hahahaha MEN.
7. La Bonte Celeste
loosely speaking it's just mashed potatoes la LOL. this is the defending champion's dish!
their presentation this year was also very over the top. got story AND poem and the whole family of 5 was presenting. they have man power man!
8. Duck King
GOT CHINESE POEM WRITTEN BY MY 12 YEAR OLD COUSIN IN ONE NIGHT.
she deserves two thumbs up for this!
9. 'Xiao Kou Chang Kai'
loooks like a set of teeth or not? haha! very cute!
it's basically just apple, marshmallows and peanut butter. very creative.
****
after all the presentations, the food came out in QUANTITY.
hahaha. no more trying to be of 'gourmet class' anymore!
nah summarize my food for you again.
hair's messy beyond what my eyes could tahan because i was too busy in the kitchen making my gourmet dish. no time to comb hair.
as if a 9 course meal wasn't enough, we even had HECK LOADS of baskin robins for dessert! glutton-nya if i eat like this everyday, even having good genes won't save me.
too much good food u become like them. this is the big tummy club! ahhaha. ah jiu on the far left was trying VERY hard to suck in his tummy. FAIL pls!
some even had to stand on the chair to have a clear view of the food. too many ppl :p
after i've finished tabulating the scores, it was time to announce the winner!
more efficient this year! we have everything computerized and no coloured manila paper is needed :D
this is Mimi. who has won 4 out of 5 categories. ahhahaa. it was pretty obvious that she'd win overall already.
and she did!
passing on ah por's apron to the new winner.... eh if i'm not wrong this apron was sewn by ah por herself!
and the trophy.. woohoo!
The 2010 winning dish is the GOURMET CLASS hong kong dim sum.
I think i will upload the videos if i have time next time. btw it's 7am now and i'm not sleeping yet :S
it was a really good meal. we had good company, as always. and we had a lot of laughs, as always!
more pictures to show:
this is the score sheet. number 5 wasn't here but their dish came! hahaha no marks for them tho
